A good selection of movies tonight and some longer segments:

-Pretenders Lot - new viewing

-Gladiator Cop - The Swordsman II -  new viewing

-Shrunken Heads (where did this gem come from?!?)

-Monster High (when will this ever end?!?)

-Varrow (standard 2 minutes)

A few movies were added to the collection since the last gathering, some from The Lobby store on a recent trip to Edmonton. The tapes created some confusion at airport security screening and we had a few moments there when we thought DM and the tapes wouldn't make it on the plane, but after a lot of explaining about what a VHS tape is, he eventually got let through, tapes safe in hand. I think we've all agreed no more new tapes, though, until we make some good progress on the existing collection!

October 2025 Varrow Log

Another full night of VHS viewing! Unexpectedly, there were moments of Disney/Broadway vibes.

We had the inaugural run of the two Mitsubishi VCRs, which had moments of thinking they were too good to play our movie selections. They even rejected The Varrow Mission, which we had to watch on the CRT. 

A new Varrow suitcase made an appearance as well:

July 2025 Varrow Log

We have decided that we need to start a Varrow log of the movies we watch when we get together. Here’s the list for July 2025:

Thanks to DM hunting down not only the newest Varrow VHS addition, Satan’s Blade, but also the main actor from the movie, Tom Bongiorno, we had our first ever Zoom meetup with someone from one the movies we we watched.

The Varrow Mission - New Copy

After 10+ years of searching, a second copy of The Varrow Mission has been acquired! It’s the PAL version from Spain, with this alternate cover:

Latest Haul

 The Varrow suitcase has been topped up with a haul of new VHS!

Varrow Returns

It has been a few years since the last Varrow (2017) and apparently a lot longer since the last blog post (2009?!?), but an official meeting has happened again. The red suitcase made its appearance, filled with VHS treasures.

No one can explain the mysterious appearance of Scream of the Wolf, which was too cursed to play. 

Two movies were finished: The Forest and Doomsday Plot. 

Two new movies were started: Ghostkeeper and Spookies.  

Progress was made on a few other movies and Neil Breen trailers were watched. 

The meeting concluded with 2 minutes of The Varrow Mission, starting from the very beginning again. Good things are worth repeating.
